Using the Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter

Last Revision Date: 4/30/2015

For Macintosh computers with Thunderbolt ports, a Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter can be used to run FireWire cameras. This adapter is available from the Apple Store.

On Windows7 and Windows8, the adapter appears as a standard FireWire host controller. Our FirePro driver installs successfully as a LSI 1394b host controller. Mac OS X has not been verified.

The adapter provides up to 7 W of power. For cameras that require more power, such as the Ladybug3, users should power externally via the GPIO.

NOTE: Users should plug in the adapter before powering the system to avoid a critical Windows error.
