FLIR's Handheld Ocean Scout Now Available with Greater Resolution

This week at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show FLIR is launching the Ocean Scout 640, the latest version of its powerful Ocean Scout line of compact, handheld thermal maritime cameras. With a thermal resolution of 640 x 512, Ocean Scout 640 reveals the heat of vessels, buoys, floating debris, and persons in the water in total darkness at even greater distances. In fact, the Ocean Scout 640 can detect a small vessel up to 3,000 meters away. With a robust 8x digital zoom and a bright 640 x 480 LCD screen boaters can increase their confidence and enjoy a safer, more relaxing time on the water after the sun goes down.

Scout 640 allows you to record NTSC video out (switchable to PAL with a GUI) in order to capture memorable moments or document significant events. Like the Ocean Scout 240 and 320 models, Ocean Scout 640 has a rugged casing built to withstand harsh, wet conditions. It’s even submersible up to a depth of three meters. With the Scout 640 in hand, boaters will never see night on the water the same way.

The Ocean Scout 640 will retail for $3499 USD and will be available in the 4th quarter of 2015 through established FLIR Maritime dealers and distributors.
